Market Manager Holiday Picks

I will start this blog stating that I am 100% biased on these ingredients. Our vendors are top notch and their variety of produce and products are always amazing me.

Last Saturday I resourced our Indoor Farmer Market for my Thanksgiving Dinner options. Happily my family was blown away!

Whistling Thistle Watermelon Radishes were such a suprise to cut, with their purple/red interiors, and wonderfully full flavor. It was a decorative, colorful addition to our pre-dinner snack selection.

Barking Dog Gardens newly created Cucumber-Mint Jam was also a hit. We were all suprised at how well this unique blend just worked well together. Perfect light and tasty on any cracker!

Anyone that has not tried one of Don King’s Breads are truly missing out. My round loaf of Caraway Rye Bread almost didn’t make it to the table! Great sliced or pull apart and snack away, like I did-Yum!

Sage Gardens sweet potatoes are simple awesome! Small fingerlit sized makes prep and cooking simple. Below is a recipe that i created this weekend…and I tell ya, there were almost fights over the left overs (the small amount that was left)!

Waverly IA Farmers Market Holiday Sweet Potatoes (Yes! I just made this up); serves 7.

  • 3lb blend of medium to small Sage Garden Sweet Potatoes. Cut ends. Then cut in sections of 1.5 - 2” long. No need to peel. That is right, you don’t have to peel them. In fact they are better if you don’t.

  • A good 3-5 Tablespoons of Spree Family Honey Farms-Bourbon Barrel Honey. I may have used more, honestly I turned the bottle over and gave it all a nice good coating.

  • Slice up 1 stick real butter into 1” sections. Spread over top of sweet potatoes.

  • Sprinkle with desired amount of light brown sugar, I used about 1/4 cup.

  • Add about 3 good size pinches of dried Rosemary leaves. Can use fresh if you have them.

  • Cover and bake in 375 preheated oven for 1 hour.

My only regret! We got caught up in the joy of each others company and sharing delicious food that we forgot to take pictures of our wonderful feast. You will just have to take my word for it!

Next Online Order Pick-Up is Saturday, December 3. Online ordering is open now thru Tuesday Nov 29.
